Wire Wrapping

Wire wrapping is the art of encasing gemstones in sterling silver wire, with no soldering required, to create wearable art that can be worn with pride.  In the course you will complete 2 pendants and a ring. The froufrou at the end is up to you, take it or leave it.  Remember, the sky’s the limit when it comes to your creative imagination.  Course notes will be provided to all participants.

In this course you will:

  • Draw a wrap design or one can be provided to copy Note, designs are dependent on the shape of the freeform stone.  Smaller can made with a minimum of 2 points, whilst larger require a minimum of 3. 
  • Prepare the wire for use
  • Learn wire wrapping techniques to manipulate the wire with tools   bending and twisting wire to encase the stone
  • Using different types of wire, square, half round and round.  Different gauges of metal are used to apply to different size stones. 
  • complete 2 pendants and a ring

Pre requisites / required for attendance

  • Bring a cabochon (from the Cabochon course if completed)
  • Bring a tumbled stone if possible
  • Bring lunch

Note if you do not have your own Cabochon or tumbled stone, one can be purchased at the class for an additional cost.

Additional Material cost?

Wire kit, containing all wire to wrap 2 pendants and make a ring is provided for additional cost.  Cost is dependent on silver price at the time of course, and starts from approx. $50 (in addition to standard course fee)

Course Frequency and Times

Courses are offered every month with a class size of 4 participants. 
The course classes run from 9.30 am  – 3.30 pm on a Sunday once a month in a single full day course.
