Tutor: Leigh Carbines
Gemstone carving is a lapidary art that adds character and artistic flair to your chosen stone of interest by carving into the surface of the stone to create bespoke art pieces. Learn the basic skills of stone carving which will enable you to easily identify the technique to use for the desired carved effect. The tutor will demonstrate the techniques and skills, then provide assistance as required as you work through your hands on art piece. It’s a fun course, where you get to unleash your artistic flair - you will want to stay longer!
Techniques and machinery skills covered in the course include:
- Drilling,
- Wheel work
- Flexible drive machines (own diamond bits are required)
- Visualisation
Pre requisites / required for attendance
- Own set of diamond carving bits
- Stones and other materials are supplied, or optionally you can bring your own favourite stone to carve
Additional Material Cost
$12 – to purchase diamond carving bits
Course Frequency and Times
Courses are offered every second month with a class size of 4 participants.
The course classes run from 7.15 pm – 9.30 pm once a week over 4 week period.
